Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Hospices de Beaune Meursault Genevrieres Cuvee Baudot Premier Cru 2019
Chardonnay | France
$299.95 - 750mL
Collector’s Alert!! Burgundy royalty doesn’t really get much better than this. Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey united their two great wine families when they were married and combined their inheritance – of top-flight vineyard parcels – to create Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. In a short period of time, they have earned a reputation as one of Burgundy’s best producers. This exceptionally rare bottling stems from a creation of a single vineyard of Meursault “Genevrieres” made exclusively for the yearly Hospices de Beaune auction. Recent vintages of his own bottling of this wine run anywhere from $640 to well over $1000 per bottle, by the by, so our price is monumental!
There is an old saying: "Beaune is the best place in the world to be ill.” Hospices de Beaune’s annual auction has a lot to do with the truth of that saying. The historic Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, a remarkable monument founded in 1443, was born as a hospital for the poor, set at the crossroads between Northern and Southern Europe. The now famous auction as we know it today came about in 1859 and formed the base for wine and charity-related revelry on the third weekend in November ever since.
But this wine...just SEVEN CASES available. You cannot find this anywhere...we checked. And it’s hundreds less than his own labeling of this wine! We’ve truly pulled a rabbit out of the proverbial hat to score this parcel, and we just know you’re going to love it. Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife, Caroline Morey, both hail from incredibly significant houses of Burgundian’s wine elite, with Marc Colin on his side and Jean-Marc Morey on hers. They embody the tradition and ancestry of Burgundy, and their respect for the winemaking process and preservation of terroir is second to none. Pierre-Yves’s winemaking star was already on the rise as far back as 1994, when he took over for his father as winemaker at Marc Colin. Now, with his consistent efforts and the ascent to a full 13 hectares of prime Burgundy real estate, this domaine is a veritable tour-de-force, especially for White Burgundy.
Genevrieres is a Premier Cru-rated climat of the Meursault appellation in the Cote de Beaune. Entirely planted to chardonnay, this is one of Meursault's best-known vineyard sites, located at the southern end of the commune on the limestone slopes of the Cote d'Or escarpment. Here, the youngest plantings go all the way back to 1979, with older plots extending all the way back to 1944. Pierre-Yves and Caroline farm their plots sustainably and organically, and everything is harvested by hand before traditional winemaking practices begin at the winery in Chassagne-Montrachet. Whole cluster pressed, before a native yeast fermentation, and followed by extended sur-lie aging, these remarkable and singular chardonnays are built to last and evolve over time. We’re currently starting an office pool collection to buy a bottle for ourselves! A unique and rare bottling such as this is a must-have for any Burgundy oenophile...especially at our price! While it lasts!
