Giodo La Quinta Toscana Rosso 2020 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
Lots of earth, meat and spice with cherries and spices. Bark and mushrooms, too. Medium-to full-bodied, deep and dense, but not heavy, with lots of forest fruit at the end. Rather unique. Sangiovese made first in stainless and then in half amphora and half wood for 12 months. Drink or hold.

This estate vineyard is a national treasure, being dubbed by Wine Spectator as one of Montalcino's "best-kept secrets". 100% sangiovese, this wine focuses on the fresh side of a “baby Brunello” with less time in oak and partial aging in clay amphora. One of the consistently best quality for value wines in the region, bar none.

You can think of this wine the same way you do Brunello – 100% Sangiovese, from just outside the official appellation, farmed in the same meticulous way as his pricey Brunello, where Ferrini is free to make the best blends possible free of the strict rules of Montalcino proper.

About the Producer

Dubbed Winemaker of the Year by Wine Enthusiast and an "Italian Master" by Decanter, Carlo Farrini is one of the most revered winemakers in the world. Having produced several hundred-point wines and consulted on a who's who list of clients like Casanova di Neri, Mazzei, Petrolo, Talenti, Brancaia, Tenuta Monteti, and others. In 2002, after scouring Italy, Carlo bought a 25-acre property in Montalcino between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo and planted six acres of Sangiovese to 15 different clones.
