Lampyridae Vineyards Estate Grenache Mount Veeder 2019
From a tiny 1-acre plot of grenache on Mount Veeder at a stunning 2,500 feet - well above the fog layer - comes this picturesque vineyard with amazing valley views. We LOVE this mountain fruit, with its favorable diurnal shift of daytime highs to nighttime lows, making for optimal ripening conditions. Winemaker David Yorgensen is at the helm here, practicing minimal intervention techniques to allow the grape’s true nature to shine through – “when one lets wine be itself, lets its character develop from within, rather than with an overabundance of external tampering, great wine happens!”
David’s consulting projects and his own label "Kind Cellars" have racked up multiple 99-point ratings from Wine Advocate, and he brings that same skill and passion to Lampyridae Vineyards. One sip of this grenache, and we knew we had to have it! This wine walks the line between bright and baked red fruits, intermingled with lovely warm, baking spices, toasty oak and undertones of peppercorn and bay. Bright acidity, long finish and smooth tannins, this is a food-friendly wine begging for a spot on your dinner table.
We just can’t get enough of this grenache... Trust us, this is a gem!
PAIRING IDEAS: Grenache is a very under-utilized wine when it comes to food pairing. Let’s work to change that with this Sichuan classic: Chen Pi Niu Rou (Tangerine Flavored Beef). Go easy on the chilies!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: No voice oozes cool in quite the way that Nick Cave’s deep rough tones convey… Case in point, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ “Red Right Hand”.
