Pierazzuoli Le Farnete Carmignano 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 James Suckling -
A firm, silky red that shows chocolate, berry and light sandalwood character with some hazelnut. Medium-bodied, layered and beautiful. Typical, outstanding Carmignano. Drink or cellar.
90 Wine Spectator -
The forward fruit in this red evokes black cherry and black currant flavors, with hints of cedar, tobacco and eucalyptus in the background. Firm and even a bit rigid on the iron-tinged finish now yet there's balance overall. Best from 2024 through 2038. 2,500 cases made, 700 cases imported.

50% off retail!

80% sangiovese and 20% cabernet sauvignon, and aged 8 months in large barrels and 8 months in bottle, we promise this will impress you to no end. Rocking with deep color and medium-bodied blue fruits, it is lightly oaked, full of exuberant and myriad cherries — bing cherry, dried cherry, sweet maraschino cherry — plus toasted Asian spices, Tuscan sunshine, licorice, and shaved button mushrooms.

Pierazzuoli is a legit old-school producer, making organic wines, raising a few goats and chickens, making some killer organic olive oil, and offering a few rooms to stay in and a little Osteria to eat heartily at. We met them in 2012 and have never looked back! You’ll wish you bought more when you taste it - this is an incredible value and one of the finest Super Tuscans on this planet, in our opinion.

PAIRING IDEAS: While there is no denying a proper Bistecca alla Fiorentina would soar with this... sometimes you need a vegetarian option. In that case, this Portobello Mushroom Lasagna is the way to go.

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: From just a few miles down the road of where I grew up, Social Distortion is always the right call in my book. “Winners and Losers” is Mike Ness at his raspy, poetic and just plain cool, best.

About the Producer

Pierazzuoli is a legit old-school producer, making a little organic wine, raising a few goats and chickens, making some killer organic olive oil, offering a few rooms to stay in and a little Osteria to eat heartily at. We spent a few hours tasting there, flipped on the wines (as we are prone to do when the wine rocks) and made a deal. Enrico Pierazzuoli runs both estates, Tenuta Cantagallo in Montalbano and Farnete in nearby Carmignano. Contagallo must be known in the US as Pierazzuoli due to Contagallo containing the name Gallo (who can sue anyone who uses "Gallo" as even part of the name). The Cantagallo estate extends over 500 acres with 60 acres planted to vines. Olive groves, other crops and forest make up the rest of the property. Le Farnete is smaller with 20 acres of 120 acres planted to vines.
