Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs Gains 1er Cru 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains is also exceptional, revealing a bouquet of crisp peach, nutmeg, pastry cream and citrus oil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with a lovely line of ripe but mouthwatering acid and a long, beautifully delineated finish. It's even better than when I tasted it from barrel. Les Champs Gains largely escaped the 2016 frosts, so the wine is quite classic in profile.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
This SUBLIME, finesse-filled classic from Dureuil-Janthial is one of the hardest to find Burgs on the market --- you MUST taste it to understand! But you need to order quick! Oh, white Burgundy...how we love you. We never get enough!!

There are few other vignerons based in the Cote Chalonnaise that craft Burgundy with as much purity, elegance or character as does Vincent Dureuil (Doo-ROY). Not only is Dureuil a gifted winemaker, but also he is blessed with some killer old vines that he tends by hand, organically, with a level of attention that sets him apart from the rest. While Cote Chalonnaise (Rully) is his stomping ground, he does also own a few rows of 40+ year-old 1er Cru Puligny Champ Gains. Production is tiny and it’s mostly sucked up by French restaurants and high end wine shops in France. (I saw this very wine in a wine shop in Bordeaux last week in fact!)

Champs Gains is located on a southeast-facing slope near the village of Blagny. It is high on the slope, just above the 1er cru Folatieres, and delivers everything we look for in a great white Burgundy vineyard. It is an ideal plot to produce chardonnay that is both tense and generous at the same time. Soils are very thin, with limestone close to the surface. This is lithe and wonderfully balanced...dancing with white flower blossom, pure citrus notes, minerals and incredible length. Wow!!!

About the Producer

The talents of winemaker Vincent Dureuil (Doo-ROY) in Rully are unmatched in the Cote Chalonaise. Not only is Dureuil a gifted winemaker, but he also blessed with some exemplary older-vine vineyards that for years have been cared for organically...higher level of attention that sets Dureuil qualitatively apart from the pack. His delicate touch translates each individual terroir into a perfect liquid picture of what the best of Rully and the best of Burgundy, for that matter can be.
