Domaine Jean Tardy Chambolle Musigny Athets 2010

Pinot Noir  |  France

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

If you know, you know. Tardy is one of the Burgundy cognoscentis savviest insider producers...we are blown away to have a few bottles of the ‘10 C-M “Athets”. ZING! Nine-year-old Chambolle from one of Burgundy's unsung heroes, Tardy? WHAT?! Yup...that's how we roll! It's staggering how good these wines are, especially with 7-10 years of perfect cellaring. You might remember we offered the 2010 Vosne Vigneux a month ago, and those who took advantage know how mind-boggling these wines are. Tardy is an "insiders"Burgundy at its very best as prices have not yet caught up to the increasing hype. Add to that the picture perfect provenance of this nine-year-old beauty, (from the highly coveted 2010 vintage no less!) and you have what we like to call a no-brainer.

“Tardy continues to do great work with his mostly villages level appellations and his wines are known for their ability to drink well young but age extremely well." Alan Meadows, Burghound

The vineyards that Jean Tardy inherited from his father in 1966 were entirely leased from Domaine Méo-Camuzet, and 30 years later, these still make up some of Jean's best holdings. Victor Tardy, Jean’s father, worked at Méo for 25 years and because of his strong bond with Etienne Camuzet, he was offered these vineyards in métayage (a sharecropping agreement). Over the years, he has expanded the domaine which now has more than 12 acres of their own vineyards in Nuits-St.-Georges, Vosne Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. The current winemaker, Jean’s son Guillaume, who studied winemaking and traveled the world, has come back to work alongside his dad, and feathered in some modern winemaking to this traditional estate. Today the wines are better than ever.

This Chambolle is a show-stopper right now. Throw this in a lineup of 1er cru reds from Chambolle and Morey-Saint-Denis and prepare to be blown away. It definitely encapsulates the delicacy and elegance that Chambolle is known for, but it also has a etherial intensity and persistence that is usually reserved for 1er cru or better vineyards. This is laced with fresh cut flowers and forest floor, raspberry tea and ripe red berries. All of this is backed by silky, fine grained tannins and a glorious lingering minerality that just won’t quit.

Not much to go around. First come, first served!

About the Producer

The Tardy’s are originally from the village of Flagey-Echezeaux but are now located in Vosne Romanee. Victor Tardy, in the 1920s began working for Domaine Camuzet and in 1945 Etienne Camuzet passed him some of his prime vineyards in “metayage” (essentially a sharecropping arrangement). Jean Tardy took over for his father in 1966 and Meo Camuzet again gives him some additional plots in metayage including Clos Vougeot, 1er cru Vosne and 1er cru Nuits Saint Georges. Since then Jean has purchased plots in Chambolle, Vosne, Fixin and Nuits Saint Georges. Now working side by side with his son Guillaume, this estate is making some of the best wines in their storied history.
