Silver Mountain Pinot Noir Estate Santa Cruz Mountains 2013
One of the leaders in organic and sustainable winegrowing in the Santa Cruz region, this bottle came to us direct from the winery, perfectly aged and in pristine condition. Definitely one of those “wow, that’s a find!” type of discoveries, and the PRICE? We love it!
Silver Mountain is run by founder/winemaker Jerold O'Brien. The story began with the philosophy "to live a life in harmony with mother nature." They produce everything from chardonnay, pinot noir, merlot, cabernet Sauvignon, and zinfandel.
The age on this bottle seems hidden, must be something to do with spectacular Santa Cruz Mountain fruit. It’s bright and perfumey and made us all giddy around the lunch table. Twenty minutes in the glass and this pinot shines bright with dried cherry, holiday herbs, and brioche. There’s a soft density with a refreshing lift on the palate - it continues with more cherry, cranberry, and a perfumed floral note. Stack a corner of the cellar with this one. While it lasts!
PAIRING IDEAS: Sear a tuna filet with soy, miso, and a bit of mirin or brown sugar. Slice thin and serve over a bowl of rice and drizzle the rest of the marinade over it. Mix in some green onion, bok choy, whatever you like.
