We’ve been on a bit of a Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine kick here at the office. These are killer wines that continually exceed our best expectations. This Aloxe-Corton (pronounced “allo-suh”) has flashes of the ripe red fruit, layered structure and intense concentration found in the adjoining grand cru of Corton. The aromatics are brooding to start, with muddled blackberries, white pepper, and saddle leather transforming into baked raspberries, mushroom duxelle, and cherry cola. The finish is ample and round, with a complex and varied finish.

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine has remained a fixture of the Côte de Beaune since the late 1800’s, with 20 hectares of prime vineyards within Corton as well as the nearby villages of Beaune, Volnay, Pommard and Pernand-Vergelesses. This exceptional value combines fruit from three prized climats at the base of Corton’s hill, “Les Cras”, “Les Boutières” and “Les Combes” with an average age of vines at 35 years old.

Christine Dubreuil has transformed and modernized the estate since taking over from her father, Bernard in the late-90’s. With a focus on initial sorting during harvest, to full-destemming and additional sorting in the winery, Christine has also transitioned to temp-controlled stainless steel fermentations and less-frequent punchdowns to achieve fiercely energetic and highly polished wines with alluring textures. At the end of the day, notes of Corton at a village price? This is the red Burgundy you need in your collection.

PAIRING IDEAS: Showcase the diversity of food that pairs with pinot by making this tasty Korean Bulgogi. Serve with rice, kimchi and some steamed turnip greens, tossed with sesame oil and lime.

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: If your knowledge of Glen Hansard begins and ends with the movie Once… you’re missing out. Maybe the greatest live performer today, check out "This Gift".
