Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas Reserve 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Wine Enthusiast -
Traditional Rhône varieties like Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault are augmented by a small proportion of Petite Syrah in this wine. Seductive on the nose, it offers perfumes of rose petal and crème de cassis accented by clove and thyme. Glossy blackberry flavor broods on the palate and finishes on ripe, velvety tannins. Lovely already, the wine should improve through 2030.
93 Wine Spectator -
Mulled plum and blackberry fruit is infused with anise, bay leaf and tobacco notes, ending with a tug of juniper on the finish. Juicy and forward in feel, but with some good latent underlying grip as well. Best from 2020 through 2032. 350 cases imported.
93 Jeb Dunnuck -
Leading off the reds from this terrific estate, the 2017 Gigondas checks in as an unusual blend of 40% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, and the rest Cinsault that was brought up in a mix of vessels (the Grenache is in demi-muids, the Syrah in barrel) for 18 months. Its deep purple-tinged color is followed by a great bouquet of kirsch and black raspberry fruits intermixed with lots of spicy, peppery, and garrigue. It’s soft, sexy, and rounded on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness. Drink it over the coming decade or more.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Truly one of our all-time faves, and another wine that is normally found in restaurants that we can now actually get a few cases of! With a 94 and double 93s to boot, Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas is like an amped-up Chateauneuf-du-Pape (which they are also quite famous for) this year. WHAT a price! Organically framed and absolutely overflowing with baskets of perfectly ripe berries, spice and herbs. The concentration and complexity here are just staggering...lovely stuff for a song. Get some!

About the Producer

Domaine des Bosquets has deep historical roots in Gigondas. It was first mentioned as a vineyard site in 1376. The most recent chapter of the history of Domaine des Bosquets began in 2010 when Julien Brechet took charge of the property. With little in the way of technical training, his brother, proprietor of Chateau de Vadieu, sent him to Chateau de Pibarnon in Bandol to begin his training before finishing his informal studies at Chateau de Vaudieu. Under Julien's leadership and assisted with a small staff of six employees, he has begun to map out his terroirs through careful studies and micro-vinifications. Since 2015 he's begun to convert the property to certified organic farming with the goal to have the estate farmed biodynamically as well.
