Chateau Negly La Falaise La Clape Rouge 2019
We can’t stop drinking this. How does Negly do it? Must be that fantastic property, the genius-level winemaking (Negly has too many 95-100 point scores to count) from Claude Gros, to name a few things! Beautifully polished, fresh, zesty yet powerful with deep curranty fruit, spices, wild herbs and sweet oak (judiciously done) and just a touch of olive and mocha, too. SO GOOD - 60% syrah, 30% grenache, 10% mourvedre.
The Chateau was built in the 18th century and was originally named d'Anceley, and in 1807, the name changed to Negly. Many families have owned this historic estate over the centuries, but it wasn't until the arrival of Jean Paux-Rosset, who purchased Negly in 1992, that the wines produced from these old traditional vineyards began their elevation to premier level status.
We just received our tiny allocation and all we can say is – GO! Plenty of press to read up on here, just know you are getting beautifully polished and concentrated wine with fantastic levels of complexity for pretty much ANYTHING priced like this!
PAIRING IDEAS: Lamb chops. Plan for a day of cooking (2 hours, really) with this recipe. Garlic confit is simply amazing, you can use it over and over too. Classic complements to syrah-based red with the rosemary, too – delicious.
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We also saw Greta Van Fleet during Bottle Rock weekend, and let me tell you, they’re one of my new favorites! Blast any of their tunes - it's bound to eliminate those Sunday scaries!
