Tassi Bruno Toscana Rosso 2019
As part of our annual pilgrimage to Italy last year, we visited Fabio’s new winery just outside the village of Montalcino and tasted many a barrel sample with his winemaker. ONE, in particular, was raised 100% in amphora – 6-8 months, in fact, from grapes grown on the warmer side of the appellation - Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, this is a wonderful expression of sangiovese – pure, mineral, complex and driving with pure red fruits.
We can’t say enough about this rare bottling – Brunello purists and the sangiovese-curious should DEFINITELY grab a few. We added about 120 bottles on with our regular Brunello order... That’s all we could get!
PAIRING IDEAS: Stay simple with a brick-cooked chicken. We like the “airplane” cut (breast and thigh) - just marinate a bit with EVOO and salt, etc. – skin-side down with a heavy pot on top, get a good sear, flip over, do it again. That’s all this pure, zesty wine wants to shine!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Iggy Pop’s “Candy” has been going around in our heads this morning – crank it up!
