Walter Hansel Pinot Noir South Slope 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 Vinous -
"The 2019 Pinot Noir The South Slope Vineyard is one of the deeper, earthier wines in the range. Wild cherry, tobacco, cedar, dried autumn leaves and iron bring out a more virile side of Pinot. There is a good bit of density, but in the laid-back style of the vintage here."

The Southe Slope Vineyard stretches from the northernmost part of the hillside to the base and has an old-world flare about it. Every vintage gets a touch riper and continues to grow in range. A mouthful of cherries, dried fruits, and a smidgen of oak. A dreamboat of a pinot noir.

About the Producer

"My father, Walter, loved to grow everything from kiwi to oriental pears and more. In the 1970's he enlisted my help to plant 257 chardonnay vines. Throughout the 1980's our entire family would harvest the half acre of grapes and my father and I would make the wine; filling two barrels, which equaled 50 cases of wine. Since our first commercial vintage in 1996, I have learned with every harvest that you must listen to vine; react to Mother Nature and ALWAYS compromise quantity for quality." - Steven Hansel
