Le Clos Peyrassol Cotes de Provence Rosé 2020 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Wine & Spirits -
Made only in exceptional years, Les Clos is a selection of the estates' top parcels. Fermented in stainless steel, then aged in unlined sandstone eggs, the 2020 feels as ambitious as its heavyweight bottle suggests, the wine?s creamy richness noticeable from the first whiff. Its plump, leesy texture fills the mouth, making plenty of room for the ripe, spicy flavors; bitter herbals add contour to its fleshy red-plum and cherry fruit. Built to last.
94 Vinous -
Limpid silver-pink. A complex, assertively perfumed bouquet evokes fresh, mineral-accented red berries, citrus fruits, pungent flowers and succulent herbs. Dry and sharply focused on the palate, offering concentrated strawberry, pomegranate, blood orange and honeysuckle flavors and a hint of tarragon. Shows superb clarity and mineral-drive on the incisive finish, which hangs on with outstanding tenacity and repeating florality. Raised in clay amphoras and only 12.5% alcohol.
92 Wine Enthusiast -
Top of the range from Peyrassol, this wine comes from a single vineyard. It is densely rich, packed with ripe red fruits. Touched by spice and beautifully textured, the wine is ready to drink.

Aficionados! You may know that the “Le Clos Peyrassol” bottling is the most prestigious cuvee of the domain (more below), and has only been produced in the most ideal of vintages. With huge press and tiny quantities, it is THE rosé to collect and share – only 20 cases!

The history of this bucolic Chateau, widely considered to be the best in the region, is pretty staggering. It has been making wine since the 13th century from its perch on a hill above the village of Flassans-sur-Isole. Founded by no less than the Knights Templar (emblematic on the label), it was a popular stopping point for pilgrims setting off for the Holy Land.

The method is direct press, as all rosés at Peyrassol are made from 100% direct-press juice. The fruit is picked at night to preserve the freshness of the fruit (they typically start harvesting around 3:00 in the morning). Our hot-off-the-press release today is just rip-roaringly delicious and serious. Made from 40% cinsault, 30% grenache, and 30% tibouren, it has a very pale salmon with a brilliant silver shine, and the aromatics of dry citrus, sweet herbs, cherry skin and has a fantastic flinty, yet creamy mouthfeel – you’ll know you’re drinking something special! Check out the reviews...but don’t wait too long!

About the Producer

Le Clos Peyrassol is the most prestigious cuvee of the domain and has only been produced in the most ideal of vintages. The Commanderie de Peyrassol has a rich history in Provence and has been producing wine for nearly 800 years. The first recorded harvest dates back to 1256 with the Knight's Templar controlled the Commanderie. The winery really took off with the command of Francois Rigord, who came to be know as "La Dame de Peyrassol." Francois was known for her personality, sense of hospitality, winemaking talent, and passion. She brought the wines to market and acclaim in 1981. The estate is now run by Alban Cacaret, who leads a team of experts from the vineyard to the cellar.
