Alex Foillard Cote-de-Brouilly 2019 (Magnum 1.5L) - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Vinous -
Light, vivid ruby. Vibrant red fruit, floral and spice qualities on the mineral-inflected nose take on suggestions of incense and licorice as the wine stretches out. Sappy, incisive and pure, offering palate-staining raspberry, bitter cherry, floral pastille and rhubarb flavors that show a compelling blend of depth and vivacity. Closes very long and subtly chewy, with reverberating florality and polished tannins that come in late. That Foillard magic is clearly a hereditary thing.

"That Foillard magic is clearly a hereditary thing." - Vinous Media

A little gift from the Beaujo gods! The "other" Foillard is absolutely crushing it. We were blown away by the level of complexity in the bottle here. The son of legendary Jean Foillard is on a serious roll and we expect that these wines will soon be as allocated as his fathers.

About the Producer

Alex Foillard comes from a line of Beaujolais fame. The son of Jean Foillard, who was a part of the "Gang of Four" and paved the way for sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking in the region, it's no exaggeration that the Gamay wine bug runs deep. When Alex was young, he loved to help his father out in the vineyards and in the cellar. Alex studied agriculture at the Lyee Agricole in Montpellier and then earned a degree in viticulture and enology in Beaune. He continued his experience at internships in Australia, Japan and in Nuits-Saint-Georges. At only twenty four years old, he purchased his first vineyards in the Brouilly and Cote de Brouilly region with his first vintage in 2016 following organic principles.
