Domaine Zind Humbrecht Riesling (Dry) Roche Calcaire 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 James Suckling -
Very attractive yellow fruit with the emphasis on Amalfi lemon, but also some stone fruit and just a hint of caramel. Very elegant and polished, this has vibrant acidity that very neatly matches the chalky character from the tip of your tongue right to the back of the mouth. Only just beginning to open up! From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

We equate this Alsatian beauty to a young Liz Taylor; before the glitz and glamour, she was new to the scene and hadn't come out of her shell, but she was energetic, vibrant, and showed a promising future. Give this one a decant and await the expressive aromas of Amalfi lemon, a hint of caramel, and stone fruit. The palate will gradually come about with that minerally stony flavor we're all dying to taste.

About the Producer

The Humbrecht family has cultivated their vines in the great terroirs of Alsace since 1620. The expression of terroir is reinforced by cultivating the vines organically and according to biodynamic principles of over 100 acres of prime vineyards. Winemaker Olivier Humbrecht is one of the only winemakers in the world with an MW and his approach is always to let the terroir shine above all else. Ripe, balanced and concentrated grapes enable him to eliminate any vinification techniques that modify the initial harmony of each terroir. To put it simply, Zind Humbrecht is one of the most revered and respected estates in the entire world producing some of the most exciting wines today in their storied history. -- This wine originates from a blend of differnet vinyards around the village of Gueberschwihr and some small vineyards located in the Grand Cru Hengst. The average age of the vines is 45 years.
