Deyrem Valentin Margaux 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Decanter -
This is good-quality. Fresh acidity gives a strong lift on the finish, all backed up by fruit, spice and tannins. Will age well and has a ton of complexity and nuance from a reliable name. A yield of 50hl/ha, 50% new oak for 15 months.
92 Vinous -
The 2018 Deyrem Valentin is very perfumed on the nose, offering blackberry, blueberry, touches of violet petal and light incense aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a silky-smooth texture and a vibrant, minerally finish that lingers. This is a gorgeous, finely tuned and precise Margaux that is going to give 20 years of drinking pleasure.
92 Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider -
Fresh, juicy, ripe red fruits with touches of coffee bean, wet earth and tobacco come to the nose easily. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with an earthy edge to the red fruits. The tannins are soft and there is ample freshness to provide good energy here. Give it 3-6 years in the bottle and this will be an even better wine. The wine blends 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. This is a solid value from the Margaux appellation.
92 James Suckling -
Ripe black cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate and some vanilla on the nose. Hints of gravel and mushroom. It’s full-bodied with firm, chalky tannins. Creamy and round. Chewy. Nice spice at the end. Try from 2024.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

This truly does defy logic. It will be the best Margaux investment of your lifetime, maybe, from a “delivering pleasure” standpoint, whenever you decide to open it. We only wish we had more...grab what you can!

At nearly 300 years old, Deyrem-Valentin is one of the region’s classic estates, and their staying power has earned them a small trove of supreme vine real estate. While some of their vines were originally part of Super Second Château Palmer ($379+ for the same vintage), all of their vines are surrounded by five Margaux Classed Growths.

The 2018 is everything we crave in Margaux (and we simply cannot get over the price!!) – the sweet, delicate, complex nose, the lithe power, the elegant blue fruits and superb minerality...AHHH. Beautiful now with a bit of air, and on into the next two decades for sure, it is (again!) hard to believe at $29.95. First come, first served…!

PAIRING IDEAS: A simple roast chicken will let this beauty shine - we do it in one big cast iron pan - heat it up before you put the chicken in so the bottom gets crispy! Throw in a bunch of potatoes and onions and such. MM!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: This is so heavenly, we have to go with “The Blue Danube” by Strauss. Magical. Dim the lights, pour this wine into a decanter, break out your finest stemware and find a comfy chair. YES!

About the Producer

Chateau Deyrem Valentin dates back to 1730 and is ideally situated in Margaux adjacent to Chateau Labagorces. A true family affair, Jean Sorge has now passed the torch to his daughters Christelle who runs the technical and winemaking and Syvlie who takes on administration and management. The family also employed the help of Hubert de Bouard as a consulting eye to even more qualitative development. Hubert de Bouard is one of the Saint Emillion dignitaries and is also the owner of Chateau Angelus.
