Sinegal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

98 Vinous -
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is every bit as magnificent as it was last year. A heady, statuesque wine, the 2019 captures all the pedigree of the vintage. Inky red cherry fruit, mocha, licorice and spice race across the palate. The 2019 is bright, deep and powerful, with exceptional balance and tons of class. It's a stunning wine, to say the least. The move towards a slightly less pushed style, with less overt oak signatures, has paid off big time. This is a fabulous showing.

I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, and it's certainly going to over-deliver. Terrific notes of cassis, white flowers, graphite, and classy oak give way to a rich, medium to full-bodied red with classic Cabernet character, beautiful balance, ripe tannins, and a great finish.

We admit some jealousy here. The property where Sinegal is located is one of the most secret and utterly fairy-tale-like in all of St. Helena. If you ever have a chance, go visit! Sinegal landed on the scene in a huge way some years ago, by purchasing the old Wolf Family property and hiring Tony Biagi (Hourglass and more) and a dream team of consultants. Ryan Knoth is at the helm now, and the 2019 will quite simply blow you away. Galloni thought of it so highly, he gave it the highest score of any 2019 Napa cab under a hundred bucks!

At $79.95, this is a stellar value when you compare it to its peers. And with all the critical acclaim rolling in, this is pretty much a massive no-brainer if you love deep, powerful, layered and highly complex, opulent cabernet. There’s so much polish and pedigree here emanating from this truly special spot on the St. Helena benchland. We absolutely love its Bordeaux-like hand, perfectly integrated French oak (never heavy) and the pure harmony of the wine. WOW. PLEASE don’t miss this amazing buy…

PAIRING IDEAS: We tried something at Morimoto recently that would work wonderfully with this. They use a crazy hot stone bowl, but you can do it with cast iron. Slice flank steak or other steak thin. Have some cooked rice at the ready. Mix up some soy, mirin, sesame oil, Japanese cooking wine, sugar and a bit of Worcestershire. Get the pan screaming hot, slap the slices in on the side of the pan, rice in the middle. When it's seared to your liking, turn off heat, pour sauce, mix and eat!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Got kids? Whatever you do, don’t put on “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto. You’ll hear it for the next 6 weeks!

About the Producer

The property has a winemaking history that dates back to 1881, way before the Sinegals acquired the property in 2013. The Sinegal estate is right at the base of the Mayacamas Range, a few minutes outside of St. Helena. The estate is run by David Sinegal who is the vintner and general manager of the estate. He is a buisness strategist and visionary with a passion for wine. His team combines, Ryan Knoth, whose previous experience included expert tutelage under David Abreu, Michel Rolland and some other well known Napa names; with Trevor Antognini who is the Director of Operations and has managed other highly regarded wine estates like Sloan and Peter Michael Winery. The estate works with many of the famed varieties of Napa and a few Bordeaux varietals.
