Domaine des Quatre Vents Fleurie 2019
From the pink granitic soils that tumble down the hillside to the road leading out of Fleurie in the area known as “Queen of Beaujolais” comes this blockbuster from the Darroze family. Made by the famous Duboeuf family for decades, this is the “serious” tier – single-vineyard bottlings, no holds barred winemaking. Semi-carbonic winemaking with a relatively high percentage of new oak, this wine is unabashedly seductive and regularly scores highly. 2019 has the highest honors yet! Did we mention 97 points, tasted blind from a panel of the world's foremost wine experts?
Wonderful, succulent red and black fruits, wildly aromatic with lemon thyme, huckleberry, crushed dried violets, spices and raspberry cream, and all the electric freshness of Gamay but with nice weight and complexity. Blood orange and bowls of crushed raspberry with very fine tannins for a wine of this price level...so fun to drink. This is a wine to be shared or put in the cellar a few years - it will only get better.
Absolutely stunning at $21.95... Don’t miss it – only 20 cases to sell today!
PAIRING IDEAS: Roast lamb with thyme would be a typical pairing in Beaujolais, so we found a pretty easy and delicious way to do it, here. Consider lamb sirloin pieces, too -- rub them with thyme and grill quickly. They cook super-fast, just like filet mignon.
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Check out a cool track by Spoon called “Wild”. Good vibes.
