Clemens Busch Riesling (Dry) Pundericher Marienburg Fahrlay Terrassen GG 2019
Riesling | Germany
$64.95 $80.00 - 750mL
"Rita and Clemens Busch are long establishing the organic domain among the finest Riesling producers in all of Germany." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This Riesling is EPIC. We are SO lucky to get a few cases of the Terrassen Grosses Gewachs (GG) every year - it’s like winning the lottery!
“A giant…ripeness, richness and power are perfectly interwoven” - Wine Advocate
Oh man, THAT is the truth. If you know Clemens, you KNOW. If not, hurry…it gets snapped up by savvy Riesling aficionados lightning-quick!! “Crystalline” is the word most commonly ascribed to Clemens & Rita Busch’s wines, and the new Marienburg Fahrlay “Terrassen” is a true, deer-in-the-headlights KNOCK-out. LITERALLY lip-smacking, it’s so pure and fine and otherworldly, you will wonder why you drink anything else! You all flipped for the “regular” Fahrlay GG we sold last month (and sold out of in hours), but you are not ready for the suped-up “terraced” version from ungrafted vines that are over one hundred years old! It is certified bangin’!
Organic. Biodynamic. Natural. And pioneers in moving Germany in this direction. No one else on the Mosel makes wines like these - they’re unique, contemplative and riveting and have gained quite a following, not to mention their extreme rarity! The grapes for the Terrassen cuvée are harvested on the steepest terraces of the Fahrlay grand cru, a volcanic formation of blue slate that is hundreds of millions of years old. We’ll leave with one more quote from the Wine Advocate:
“The wines are authentic, expressive and have an inimitable identity that represents the particular origin of which the terraced parts with the often ungrafted vines can give unforgettable drinking experience. These are not wines to enjoy quickly or even thoughtlessly. I'd rather recommend to drink them slowly, not too cool and with all the time they need and you are ready to give them." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Reviews
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Bottled in mid-September, the 2019 Marienburg GG Fahrlay Terrassen is deep, intense and pure on the nose that reveals a lemon-fresh bouquet of crushed stones intertwined with perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit. This is highly complex on the nose! Full-bodied, very intense and sustainable on the palate, this is an expressive terroir wine from 100-year-old vines on blue slate. Ripeness, richness and power are perfectly interwoven with the salty, crystalline and refined slate acidity, the depth and complexity of the Terrassen terroir. This is a great, persistent, powerful yet refined and structured wine that will be sold in a year but can be aged for 20 years or more. There are tonic flavors on the nose and and on the finish with aeration. A giant. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
James Suckling
Extremely intense, herbal nose with hints of sealing wax and heavy cream. Powerful, rich and concentrated, this is an really imposing dry wine for the Mosel. Great textural complexity and a huge finish, where there's super-abundant minerality! From 110-year-old vines. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold.
