Markus Molitor Riesling (Off Dry) Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese *** Gold Capsule 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

99 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Molitor's 2018 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) opens with a concentrated, deep, clear and complex bouquet with crunchy stone and very fine lemon chutney aromas. Crystalline and clear on the palate, this is a playful, frisky, finessed and finely juicy, highly delicate and stimulatingly piquant and filigreed Würzgarten Auslese that represents very fine botrytis flavors and a great terroir. This is a gorgeous, weightless and pristine, persistently salty Riesling that can be aged for decades. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

99-point liquid gold (at very sharp pricing, of course) on one of the all-star producers in all of the Mosel. The 2018s from Molitor are once again, exemplary. As Wine Advocate notes, "This is a gorgeous, weightless and pristine, persistently salty Riesling that can be aged for decades." 99 points! We have just a handful of cases of this rare gem, grab it while we have it.

About the Producer

In 1984, at the tender age of 20, Markus Molitor took over his father's winery with a clear aim: to produce Mosel Rieslings under the name "Molitor" in the tradition of eight generations and in the same quality that made the region world-famous 100 years ago. The wines are terroir-specific, unmistakable and extremely age-able. One of our favorite Mosel producers here at First Bottle! The approx. 62 hectare steep slope facing south to south-east has a unique red slate weathered soil with a high proportion of rock, which is rarely found on the Moselle. Due to the special soil, wines from the Urziger Wurzgarten are extremely fine-spicy, fruity, wonderfully full-bodied with a fine interplay of acids and a clear structure.
