Domaine des Malandes Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2019
Chablis, where have you been?! Everyone at the Napa office/warehouse stocked up on this one – it’s so crisp, fine and deeply flavored...such a buy. Wow! A family-owned estate, run by Lyne Marchive and employing the talents of Guénolé Breteaudeau as winemaker, Malandes is well-known to savvy Chablis lovers who can’t drink the $200 stuff all the time!
Mont du Milieu is one of our favorite Chablis 1er crus - it faces south and southeast which leads to good sun exposure and the soils are made up of limestone clays and small white limestone stones. Malandes’ 2019 is crisp, piquant with crushed stone and lemon pith, and a satisfying roundness from the touch of oak.
A STUNNINGLY excellent buy for pure and crystalline chardonnay – only 10 cases for First Bottle-ers! While it lasts...!
PAIRING IDEAS: We recently had a seafood tower at Bouchon here in Napa, and we forgot how much we love a simple, perfectly poached large, sweet shrimp with a few yummy sauces. A bit of homemade cocktail sauce, a little horseradish, or even a simple mignonette is perfect. With warm bread, good, rich butter and a salad!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Ever heard of Cornershop? Truly funky, off the wall and digable – try “Good Sh**" and the classic “Brimful of Asha” (there is a great Fatboy Slim remix of this, too) to start.
