Nid Tisse Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay Carneros Napa Valley 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2019 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard comes from a well-known site in Carneros, in the southern part of Napa Valley. This is pure class all the way and has a vivid perfume of citrus blossom, honeyed minerality, green almond, and a touch of charcoal. It shows more richness on the palate and is medium-bodied, has a beautifully layered mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and one heck of a great finish. I don't think there's much of this to go around, but it's up there with the crème de la crème of California Chardonnay. It needs lots of air to show at its best today and will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Too rarely these days, a new wine, a new winemaker, lands on the scene and truly rocks our world. Marie-Laure Ammons is such a person - French-born (Limousin), and with an impressive resume going back 18 years in Bordeaux, Burgundy, plus stints at ultra-high-end Sonoma benchmarks, such as Hartford Court and Atelier Melka. She is married to winemaker Frederick Ammons (The Napa Valley Reserve, RUDD, and many more top producers), and she most recently finished harvest at Eisele Vineyards...just in case that’s not enough worldwide experience for you!

We offered this wine up and were taken aback by the response from you all. We managed to secure a couple more cases from Marie-Laure! Here are a few stats on this wonderful, piercing, glorious Chardonnay:

- Only 160 cases made

- Hyde vineyard fruit -- arguably one of California’s finest “grand crus”, 20 year old vines, 50% 26 year old Robert Young clone and 50% Old Wente

- Aged 23% Burgundian French New Oak and 21% in Clay Amphorae

- Nid Tissé is French for “woven nest” and the name of the first wine by the Ammons family

We’d challenge almost anyone to not call this Burgundy in a blind tasting. Hints of tropicality and the tiniest bit of reduction, but has really wonderful, taut intensity, concentration and length. The flavors are candied citrus and crisp apple, with some underripe pineapple and stony minerals. Extreme elegance and fine texture here.

$69.95 and worth every penny. We’re proud to be one of the only places in the world to have this wine... Please grab a few and see for yourself!

PAIRING IDEAS: Make a simple Vietnamese “salsa verde”. Throw a bunch of cilantro, mint, parsley, roasted peanuts, ginger, garlic, fish sauce, sugar and lime juice in a blender. Sear or grill some fish (or chicken). Drizzle this over it. Pour Chardonnay and prepare yourself!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Neil Young and Crazy Horse have a new release: BARN. We just added it to our daily offer playlist - check it out!
