La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino 2013 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 James Suckling -
Aromas of blackberry and cherry with flowers. Smoky. Hot stone. Medium to full body, firm and fresh tannins and a delicious finish. Beautiful now but needs a year or two to soften.
92 Wine Spectator -
Starts out with cherry, iron and tobacco flavors, before firming up, with a solid structure. A kernel of fruit holds steady as this red unfolds on the lingering finish. Best from 2022 through 2036. 2,200 cases made.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

The Zannoni family (who made us an epic lunch just a few weeks back on our recent trip there) is VERY close to our hearts. The family-run winery is a true joy to drink and share, and a soul-warming experience every time. First Bottle clients...you KNOW what we’re talking about!

Started in 1907, the entire estate is centered around their centuries old Tuscan farmhouse, where the family has lived for over a century. Around 20 acres of vines are planted between two vineyard sites: one near Fulginiae and the other in the south near Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The northern site is a bit cooler, while the southern vineyards are warmer and each year they blend fruit from both locations.

THE WINE! Marvelous, dazzling, complex, rich yet laser-like, warm -- after a few extra years in bottle it is more harmonious, polished and deep than ever. Wow! Jaw-dropping price…!

PAIRING IDEAS: As we do at La Fortuna, “pici” (the local pasta), of course. But unless you make from scratch, it can be hard to find. Use whatever pasta you like, make a rich meat ragu and you are THERE. Simplicity and perfection at its finest!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We get so excited when La Fortuna's wines arrive at our warehouse, so listen to something upbeat! The "80's Pop" station is always a favorite in the office!

About the Producer

La Fortuna began in 1907, with Angiolino Zannoni, Gioberto's great grandfather, growing seed crops and raising livestock. His son Gino followed suit, taking over in the 1950s at a time when the economic landscape was changing dramatically people were fleeing the land in droves to take manufacturing jobs in the cities. Gino knew he wanted none of that, and so he bought the land his family was farming from the landlord. The entire estate is centered around their centuries old Tuscan farmhouse, where the family has lived for over a century. Around 20 acres of vines are planted between two vineyard sites, one near Fulginiae and the other in the south near Castelnuovo dell'Abate.
