Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

We’ve sold Guy Robin’s wines for years, so if you know the producer and you love Premier Cru Chablis, you’ll already be off and grabbing some. If you’re new…

When Marie-Ange Robin took the helm of the winery in 2000, she benefitted from her father Guy’s incredible foresight in purchasing a brilliant collection of vineyard plots in Chablis, including parcels in five Grand Crus and four Premier Crus. Because Guy refused to tear up vines for high-yielding clones, as was the practice decades ago in Chablis, some 80% of the family’s vines are considered “old vines”.

The Kimmeridgian soils of the Tonnerre terroir (meaning the fossilization of small sea creatures from the Kimmeridgian era) is a chalky, limestone-rich slope that helps the grapes retain acidity and express a piercingly mineral character that we crave in Chablis. Just to the south and on the same exposition as Grand Cru Blanchots and Les Clos, Montee de Tonnerre (“thunder mountain”) is often thought of as the top Premier Cru site in Chablis and often compared to the Grand Crus.

As always, this wine is almost opulent, deeply satisfying with rich, perfumey lemon creme, white stone fruits, orange flower, kaffir lime leaf, crushed rock and oyster shell notes with a satiny, lovely texture. You might think you’re drinking a pricy Puligny! While it lasts...!

PAIRING IDEAS: We’d love to drink this with a killer Lyonnaise salad. Here’s a simple recipe, but basically you are making a bacon-y salad dressing with mustard over greens and lardons and a poached egg. SO. GOOD!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We’ve been listening to a lot of X RAY TED – funky beats, mostly instrumental, with old school funk, R+B, and even a little disco sampling. Pretty cool!

About the Producer

In the early 2000s, Marie-Ange Robin had a choice. Stay in Paris and pursue a successful career as a fine art dealer, or return home to Chablis and take the reins of the family winery. Her decision would not only change her family’s fortunes but also preserve a critical piece of Chablis history. Domaine Guy Robin today is a winery reborn. Marie-Ange represents the fourth generation of vine growers in the family. It was her father Guy who slowly, parcel by parcel, purchased vineyards in the 1960s; yet it is Marie-Ange who has brought the winery to a level of greatness for which it was always destined. Simply put, there are few other Chablis estates with such a rich collection of older vines, and as a result, few other estates that deliver Chablis wines of such character and complexity. Because Guy refused to tear up vines for high-yielding clones as was the practice decades ago in Chablis, some 80% of the family’s vines across five grand cru vineyards and four premier cru vineyards are older vines – these low-yielding plants deliver Chardonnay that is richly aromatic, reflecting Chablis’ historic terroir like a mirror.
