Marc Hebrart Blanc de Noirs Noces de Craie Extra Brut Grand Cru 2015
Our man in Champagne comes through BIG TIME once again, with an incredible buy on a bottling not seen often enough here in the States (usually it’s snapped up by sommeliers!). So, collectors, savvy Champagne enthusiasts, lovers of Grand Cru greatness, this just hit the warehouse – there are only a few cases so we doubt it will last through the day!
100% pinot noir from 5 selected plots in Aÿ, with an average age of 44 years. Noces de Craie means, lyrically "wedding of chalk”, and is the fruit of Jean-Paul Hebrart’s passion for pinot noir. We fell in love with this cuvee on our Zoom tasting, and we’re not the only ones… Check out the love on Cellartracker! Dosage is 5 grams per liter and it is very well-judged.
There is colossal intensity and a chalky minerality on the nose here with Asian pear, quince paste, citrus cream, puff pastry and almond. It’s powerful and refined with minuscule bubbles and a rich, mouth-coating intensity that is laced with salty minerals and rich stone fruit and citrus flavors.
This is truly exceptional Champagne from start to finish. A truly terrific buy and a complete no-brainer if you love Champagne at this level. While it lasts!
PAIRING IDEAS: We’re feeling decadent and it IS oyster season, so try this classic – fresh oysters dabbed with a bit of caviar. This ramps up the salinity in a big way and complements the powerful, plush style of this fantastic Grand Cru.
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: "Juke Box Hero” by Foreigner. So cheesy, but makes us want to run around with air guitar like we did in high school!
