Louis Michel Chablis Forets Premier Cru 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Forêts delivers notions of citrus oil, fresh bread and yeasty reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and chiseled, it's bright and tangy, with good tension and a saline finish.
90-93 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy -
Only half a normal crop. Paler colour and, some shellfish on the nose. Very chiselled, with a, sort of rigid intensity here, and a fresh limestone finish. Extremely successful this year, the essence of kimmeridgian clay-limestone.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Honestly, as a wine retailer, this stuff scares me. When I hit something like this at this price, I go a bit crazy. I’ve been drinking (or at least opening) a bottle every night for the last 3 nights. I can’t stop drinking it.

Pure, so balanced, the lemon oils and round bread flavors, the zippy minerality, great fruit AND tension…MAN! Get some! If that doesn’t get your blood pumping considering this wine isn’t $60 or $150, we don’t know what will! The Forets cru is located on the western side of the Serein river in Chablis, on a south-facing hill of high-quality Kimmeridgian soils just a few miles southwest of the village of Chablis. It is typically elegant, steely, mineral and precise, as exemplified by this wonderful Louis Michel bottling. You will fall in love with it. $37.95...we still can’t believe it!

PAIRING IDEAS: We did this with a nice fresh piece of seared halibut that we rubbed with a cool new discovery – Little Green Cyclo Lemongrass and Basil Rub. Fantastic with a salad and a HUGE glass of this!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: This wine is rocking and it’s a beautiful, sunny day in Napa! We’re vibing along to some White Stripes' “Icky Thump”

About the Producer

The Michel family has been cultivating their passion for tradition and the Chablis terroir since 1850. In the mid-20th century, the family stopped making wine in wooden barrels in favor of stainless steel tanks to create clean, pure, and precise Chablis without adding artificial woody flavors. Through this philosophy, combined with limited yields inspired by organic wine-growing techniques, the domaine has developed a worldwide reputation for fine winemaking in stainless steel tanks. A firmly-rooted sense of excellence is passed down from generation to generation. Louis Michel & Fils has always been a family business and is managed today by Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel.
