Opus One Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2018
Arguably one of the finest Opus’ ever! We wish we had a bit more, alas, this will likely go down as one of the greats. James Suckling's #15 US wine of 2021 and an absolutely seductive wine from start to finish.
The genesis of Opus One wine can be traced to 1970 at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii, where Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild met for the very first time and began their collaboration to merge old world and new world wine styles into one grand opus. The joint venture between Mondavi and Baron Rothschild was announced in 1980, and well, savvy wine collector that you are, likely know the rest!
2018 is a fantastic Napa vintage, and this will undoubtedly go down as one of the best Opus' made. The wine is seamless, finessed, strikingly rich and polished, pure and true to its Bordeaux/Napa heritage. BRAVO!!
PAIRING IDEAS: Elegance rules the day on this wine, so if you do a meat with it, make it sexy -- béarnaise sauce, a killer demi-glace, maybe some fresh shaved truffles...just go all out!!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Listen to an iconic band or singer, while drinking a wine from an iconic producer... makes sense, right? “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra, or any tune by the legendary Rat Pack!
