Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Chambrattes 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Delicate and elegant, with ripe, bright fruit aromas and earthy as well as orange notes on the intense but refined nose, the 2019 Sancerre Chambrates is a tight, intense and tensioned wine whose vitality, finesse and elegance combined with a dense fruit core and sustainable mineral grip reminds me of dry limestone Riesling crus from Alsace, Pfalz or the hilly lands of the Wonnegau in Rheinhessen, Germany. This is a beautiful vin de terroir. Highly stimulating and with lingering salinity, this is a Sancerre ready to be served now and over this decade. The grapes were picked between September 12th and October 4th. Tasted in February 2021.
94 Vinous -
A mouthwatering style that's starting to settle into the bottle, shaking off its primary excitedness. The 2019 Sancerre Chambrates is very satisfying, lick-your-lips stuff. It provides a seamless texture, delicate nectarine and citrus-like fruit flavors and, crucially, harmony.

Double 94s, from one of the planet’s finest terroirs on earth to grow Sauvignon Blanc/ Chambrates is located on a plateau above Le Paradis on limestone and red clay soils. This is a generous example of Sancerre, due to its terroir with more of a citric quality to the fruit, a richer texture, and a mineral finish.

The Vacherons, without question, are Sancerre’s leading winemaking clan. From the family’s pioneering work in identifying and exploring the region’s top terroirs to their leading position in biodynamic viticulture, there are few if any artisans today in Sancerre as exacting or as respected. The estate’s peerless older vines, planted and cultivated by generations of family members, are cared for fastidiously. First come, first served..!

PAIRING IDEAS: Make your own Caesar salad from scratch -- the BEST olive oil, garlic, and anchovy. Mash that into a paste, add a raw egg yolk or two, squeeze a half lemon, add more oil, and mix. Then, add shredded parm (the best you can get) until the texture is right. Add more oil or cheese, pepper as you prefer, and...EAT!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Well, since we are still high from seeing American Utopia (David Byrne) last night, we suggest the fun-loving “Little Creatures” album from Talking Heads.

About the Producer

Great-grandfather Maurice Vacheron tended a few vines back when Sancerre was but a stop on a village road. His son, Jean, was the first of the family to specialize in producing wine, paying particular attention to the influence of terroir on Sauvignon Blanc. Jean's sons, Denis and Jean-Louis, solidified the Vacheron name in Sancerre, showcasing the family's talent with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Today, Denis' son, Jean-Laurent, and Jean-Louis' son, Jean-Dominique, have taken the estate to a whole new level of quality, championing biodynamic viticulture and selecting singular vineyard parcels that the family has observed for generations (and planted with their own hands) to bottle as single-vineyard wines, to showcase the heights that Sancerre can reach.
