Ridge Lytton Springs Zinfandel 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Jeb Dunnuck -
#48 wine of 2021: Checking in as 74% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignan and the rest Mataro (Mourvèdre), all from the Dry Creek Valley, the 2015 Zinfandel Lytton Springs has a deep purple color as well as a sensational perfume of black cherries, blackberries, ground herbs, leather, and earth. More reserved and elegant than the Pagani Ranch, yet beautifully concentrated, seamless, and perfectly balanced, it opens up nicely with time in the glass, has sweet tannin, and a great finish. It’s a complete wine that’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink well for over a decade.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Lytton Springs...just uttering that name makes our skin tingle. We’re drinking the 70s Ridge wines from our personal cellars right now, and even at 40+ years old, they SING. The exquisite balance in its youth and at a ripe old age is simply unmatched in the world of Zinfandel. The 2019 Lytton is stunning from start to finish, a wine we like a bit more than the exceptional 2018, which was the highest-scoring Lytton of all time.

Considering the price of this American classic, it should be in all serious cellars, in our opinion. How this wine costs barely over $40 is mind-boggling! So here you are! Just rated Jeb Dunnuck's #48 wine of 2021! We got the Ridge hookup!

About the Producer

The history of Ridge Vineyards begins in 1885, when Osea Perrone, a doctor who became a prominent member of San Francisco's Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge. He terraced the slopes and planted vineyards; using native limestone, he constructed the Monte Bello Winery, producing the first vintage under that name in 1892. This unique cellar, built into the mountainside on three levels, is Ridge's production facility. At 2600', it is surrounded by the upper vineyard, now referred to as the Perrone Ranch. The 2019 vintage showed moderate summer temperatures which allowed for slow ripening. Enjoyable young, this energetic wine will gain complexity over ten to fifteen years.
