POE Pinot Noir Manchester Ridge Vineyard 2018
POE is one of our go-to's when dining out (you can find it in all the hip spots), so we’re thrilled to have a few cases of this for our cellars (yours too)! Samantha Sheehan is the mind behind POE, which she started in 2009 after being inspired by the wines she tasted in Burgundy and Champagne. While not necessarily the “model” for her wines, she is intensely focused on vineyard-specific bottlings made with a gentle hand (minimal intervention, judicious use of sulfur, and never any additives). Manchester Ridge, in Anderson Valley, is one such vineyard, close to the Mendocino Coast at 2,000-foot elevation. The vineyard is 400 feet above the fog line and ripens substantially later than vineyards on the valley floor.
As always, the wine is wickedly floral and perfumey, with roses and sweet pea and cranberry notes. Has a terrific harmoniousness to it, and truly drinks like something WAY above its price -- we don’t want to compare it to Burgundy...but we might have to!!
Off the charts at $29! While it lasts!
PAIRING IDEAS: Ever made Green Goddess dressing? It’s easy. Now take some of that and slather up a chicken (under the skin as much as you can), and roast it or grill it like you normally do. Use the rest on a mess of greens. SO GOOD with this wine!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We’ve been getting in to BECK a lot more lately. Slap on “Beck Radio”, and get a very cool mix of his lesser-known but excellently done tunes, and they’ll throw in some David Byrne, Breeders, and other cool stuff along with it.
