Domaine de la Vieille Julienne lieu-dit Clavin Cotes du Rhone 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

91 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2018 Côtes du Rhône Lieu-Dit Clavin is a beauty and certainly plays in the realm of a rock-solid Châteauneuf in this vintage. Revealing a deeper ruby/purple color as well as a beautiful bouquet of black cherries, black licorice, peppery garrigue, and a touch of earthy minerality, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a beautifully layered, seamless texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. It certainly has some classic Vielle Julienne character, and I would be thrilled to have bottles in the cellar. It’s going to evolve nicely for 10-12 years.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Boom! Domaine de la Vieille Julienne’s 18s have landed! Great pricing, and we have the whole range for you today, from drinkers (that’s some serious “drinkers!”), to the big time Reserves for the cellar. The domaine covers 30 hectares of vineyard that average over 60 years old, and the parcels of Grenache that go into the Reserve bottling of Chateauneuf-du-Pape are over 100 years old. The 91-point “Clavin” is outrageously delicious for the price, so dark and mouthcoating, you will be awed. Step up the older-vine wines and make sure you are sitting down when you drink them the first time! So finely tuned, yet intensely concentrated...these are dead-serious wines that will THRILL. Plenty of notes and scores below. Please don’t miss...a few of the wines we literally have 12-18 bottles!

About the Producer

La Vielle Julienne has been a family owned property since 1905, but the property was born on the northern slope of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the 17th century. Jean-Paul Daumen is the fifth generation owner and winemaker. He remains a committed student of wine; continuously searching for new ideas and curious to the unknown. He is a true believer in biodynamics and believes in the abandoning of herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers and chemical products in the vineyards. He is also a true believer in minimal unnatural additions in the cellar. All wines are certified biodynamic by Demeter.
