Fontodi Syrah Tuscany 2017
One of Tuscany’s finest producers doesn’t just do Sangiovese -- this rare bottling of Case Via is 100% organic Syrah that will BLOW you away! Fontodi is already legendary for its “Flaccianello” and Chianti wines (some of the most coveted/collectible/high-scoring in all of Tuscany), but you might be surprised to know they make an absolutely stunning, unique, and wildly delicious Syrah. Rarely seen outside of Italy, this is a true gem. This is NOT for the shy, and while ultra-concentrated and plush, it has many layers of complexity and a silky texture, plus Fontodi's signature freshness that make for pretty thrilling drinking. Note that this wine has a 93.8 Cellartracker score -- that’s up there!
Since 1968, when the Manetti family acquired the property, which sits on a hill at the gates of Panzano, it has been completely renovated. The brothers, Giovanni and Marco Manetti, were still young when they started planting new vineyards in the Conca d’Oro, the beautiful vinous paradise that is Panzano in Chianti, one of the most coveted terroirs in all of Chianti and Italy for that matter. Fontodi is a certified organic estate, which since the beginning has not used herbicides or pesticides. The vineyard, which lies in the famous shell-shaped Conca d’Oro, opens up to the south like an oversized amphitheatre. The limestone marl soil is very rocky, shows slate parts and is ideally ventilated and drained. The Syrah grapes come from a south-facing location around Villa Pecile.
Epic, unique and rare to see for sale here...especially at our great price! ONLY 20 CASES!
PAIRING IDEAS: This wine really shines with cheese, so we’d go with a “white” pizza of some type, topped with any and all manner of mushrooms, arugula, grilled/fresh veggies (leeks, zucchini), truffles, fresh tomatoes, pancetta...mmm!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Can’t go wrong with some good ol’ Sublime “What I Got”. A quintessential song with a quintessential Italian wine!
