La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2013 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
Very attractive and intense aromas of ripe black cherries and plums, leading to a palate that has a quite firm tannin core and finishes with a convincing serving of rich, ripe darker plums and berries. Drink or hold.
95 Wine Spectator -
Fluid and fruity, supported by a matrix of dense tannins, this features a fine texture and structure, offsetting the saturated flavors of cherry, red berry, leather, iron and tar. Stays focused while cruising to a lingering finish. Really youthful, intense and long.
95 Raffaele Vecchione -
Rose petal, mandarin peel and cherries in this fragrant red wine. Medium body, the tannin is silky and incredibly melted in the wine and the finish is light and of a classy elegance. One of my absolute favorites. Outstanding. Drink or grow old.
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a plump and layered wine. It peels back to reveal black cherry, spice, tobacco and tangy balsam herb. This slowly aged Sangiovese is elegant and generous with a powerful mouthfeel that shows integrated tannins and balanced acidity. This Riserva ages in barrique for 12 months followed by an additional 36 months in botte.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is BACK! Gorgeous, dense, concentrated fantasticness at the best price in the country!

We travel to Montalcino on a twice-yearly pilgrimage (well, not this year, we did some Zoom calls) to spend time with the wonderful, warm, talented and passionate Zannoni family, who have built La Fortuna into one of the forces in the region. A small parcel of the incredible 2013 Riserva just landed, and we can’t say enough about it, other than you want it in your cellar ASAP. Very limited!!

La Fortuna began in 1907, with Angiolino Zannoni, Gioberto's great grandfather, growing seed crops and raising livestock. His son, Gino, followed suit, taking over in the 1950s at a time when the economic landscape was changing dramatically. People were fleeing the land in droves to take manufacturing jobs in the cities. Gino knew he wanted none of that, and so he bought the land his family was farming from the landlord.

This Riserva is a selection of the best barrels in the cellar, sourced from the cooler site near Fulginiae and the warmer in Castelnuovo dell'Abate. WE LOVE IT!

About the Producer

La Fortuna began in 1907, with Angiolino Zannoni, Gioberto's great grandfather, growing seed crops and raising livestock. His son Gino followed suit, taking over in the 1950s at a time when the economic landscape was changing dramatically people were fleeing the land in droves to take manufacturing jobs in the cities. Gino knew he wanted none of that, and so he bought the land his family was farming from the landlord. The entire estate is centered around their centuries old Tuscan farmhouse, where the family has lived for over a century. Around 20 acres of vines are planted between two vineyard sites, one near Fulginiae and the other in the south near Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The northern site is a bit cooler, while the southern vineyards are warmer and each year they blend fruit from both locations.
