Domaine Dumien Serrette Cornas Patou 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

95-97 Jeb Dunnuck -
Coming from pure granite soils of the Patou lieu-dit, the 2019 Cornas Patou is another brilliant wine in the making from this small family estate. Revealing a dense purple hue as well as awesome black and blue fruits, ground pepper, beef blood, and spring flower-like aromatics, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, building yet ripe tannins, and a monster of a finish. It might need a decade to hit maturity, but it’s a phenomenal Cornas that will evolve for 20-30 years.
94 Wine Spectator -
Ripe, juicy and well built, with a solid core of bramble-edged cassis, bitter plum and blackberry fruit flavors enlivened with sweet tapenade and fresh bay notes. The long, chalky spine is well imbedded through the finish, adding length and cut. Best from 2024 through 2035.
93-95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
This inky pre-bottling sample of Dumien-Serette's 2019 Cornas Patou is certainly impressive. Plummy, cassis-laden aromas lead the way accompanied by hints of wild herbs and crushed stone. Full-bodied, concentrated, tannic and even a little austere, it will require cellaring but should be a beauty in about five years' time.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

“...brilliant...awesome...phenomenal...” - Jeb Dunnuck. INDEED -- people, this is a complex, concentrated powerhouse that’s not for the shy. But it’s most definitely for those who worship at the temple of Syrah in all of its purple glory. Just...wow! Read on for more, but do it QUICK -- not much to go around!! One for the ages!

The “Patou” is a single vineyard cru from a small, granite-laden “lieu-dit” with vines up to 80 years of age. It’s quite rare to see it here in the U.S. at all. Starting in 1983 to bottle their own wines, the Serrette family has been growing and selling grapes since 1915. They employ traditional methods like foot-treading and hand-harvesting. In short, it’s everything we look for and respect in wines of this caliber -- you MUST try a few at our VERY fine, direct-imported price!!

As noted, EXTREMELY limited! First come, first served…!

PAIRING IDEAS: A must? Cheese. You MUST have some cheeses on hand for wine at this level of depth and concentration. Go with sheep's milk cheeses, if you can. The strength and robustness pair amazingly well. Beyond that, go BIG with lamb, venison steak, and the like. Rich sauces can hold up too!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: "You Dropped a Bomb on Me” by the Gap Band is ideal for this rollercoaster, inky beast!

About the Producer

The Serrett family has deep roots in COrnas dating as far back as 1915. The domaine is relatively new in the region and are farming 3 ha of vines. During most of the 20th century they supplied their grapes to some very famous negociants like Delas, Chapoutier and Jaboulet. It was in 1983 when Gilbert Serrette and the family decided to bottle their own wine. The domaine is under the charge of Nicolas Serrette who follows traditional Rhone winemaking methods like foot treading and hand harvesting. Cuveen Patou is a single vineyard cru from a small Lieu-Dit. The vines planted here are estimated to be 80 years of age. The vineyard is extremely low yielding and the soil structure is made up of decomposed granite and sand-lending it the pure, rustic flavor of Cornas.
