Pierre Moncuit Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Non Dose Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger 2006 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Vinous -
The 2006 Non-Dosé Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru offers a super-appealing interplay of Mesnil vibrancy and the complexity that develops with extended time on its lees, which makes for a fascinating and totally beguiling Champagne. More than anything else, the 2006 is in a gorgeous place for drinking now, as all the elements are very nicely balanced. Apricot, hazelnut, chamomile, mint, dried flowers, pastry and light tropical overtones add wonderful shades of nuance. No dosage. Disgorged: February, 2019.

This amazing parcel just arrived direct from France, and the 2006 is even more impressive! At 14 years since the harvest, this is really singing right now!!

Located in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger where grand cru chardonnay reigns supreme, Nicole Moncuit owns some of the oldest vines along the entire Cote with an average age of 45 years. For those in the know, Moncuit is a must-have for anyone serious about Blanc de Blancs. This tiny grower has officially hit superstar status and we can't keep these in stock whenever we get some.

The female winemaking touch is evident alongside the magic that happens in Mesnil with incredible precision and clear-cut minerality, gorgeous texture and a sense of effortless power. It spent almost 13 years on the lees, being disgorged in February of 2019 which gives this loads of puff pastry, brewers yeast, wild flowers and just incredible complexity and length. See Galloni's note below, but be sure to snag some while we have it at this fantastic price!

We all got our 6-pack... Holidays are coming!

PAIRING IDEAS: We’ll probably ALWAYS say fried chicken, but in this case, try an array of appetizers. Classic would be deviled eggs, smoked salmon bites, stuffed mushrooms, or mac and cheese bites! Roll ‘em in panko and fry them, why not?!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Check out "Artisans of the Wine" - a podcast by Hervé Deschamps, Cellar Master at Champagne House Perrier-Jouët. Pretty cool info to get you in the mood to drink bubbly!

About the Producer

A consistent darling of the critics, the superb champagnes of Pierre Moncuit are currently overseen by Nicole Moncuit and her brother Yves. Established as recently as 1977, they have risen to the top rank among celebrated growers, their wines complex and age-worthy, and yet, at the same time, inviting, fleshy and offering masses of pleasure. A small house, it primarily produces fabulous Blanc de Blancs Champagne from Le Mesnil - one of only six 100% rated Grand Cru villages in the Cote de Blancs, home to the likes of Salon and Krug’s Clos du Mesnil, and where the Moncuits possess a number of fine Grand Cru vineyards, including the excellent and much-prized Les Chétillons. Much aligned with Antonio Galloni recent thoughts on terroir-driven wines from Champagne’s small producers, the Moncuit range is entirely estate grown, demonstrating that grower Champagnes can offer a level of individuality beyond the larger houses. We believe that in the very near future these wines are going to look like sensational values. Small, in the case of Moncuit, really is beautiful. Catch it while you can.
