Henri Maire Cremant du Jura Brut Jurassique NV
Ask a hardcore wine geek, or a sommelier about the Jura region OR Cremant sparkling in general, and be prepared to see some serious swooning going on. Today’s wine, at this jaw-dropper of a price, is a taste experience -- we BEG you grab a few and see for yourself!
Jura is nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland, and Domaine Henri Maire dates back to a staggering 1632. Today, it is owned by the legendary Boisset family (of Burgundy, Sonoma and Napa Valley, but really spanning the globe). We are talking about Chardonnay and Pinot Noir expertly blended, and made in the traditional manner of Champagne. 12 months of lees aging, and a few more in bottle after a modest 10 g/l dosage, which really makes this sing. There is nothing quite like the intense complexity of Jura wines, and your brain and taste buds will be revved up big time examining all the levels of flavors and complexity here. This region, while only allowed to make sparkling wines since 1995, has a real shot to give Champagne a run for its money. TRULY amazing at our $17.95 price!!
Built from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown exclusively on the ancient Jurassic soils dating back more than 200 million years. It’s a beautiful golden golden hue with vigorous and creamy bubbles that have a nice clean and fruity attack. Golden Delicious apple, D'Anjou pear and citrus pith and Galaktoboureko (Greek Phyllo dough dessert) aromas meet similar flavors with a wonderful texture and superb length for this price range. It is a fruit-driven and crowd-pleasing style for almost any occasion... This just CRUSHES!
PAIRING IDEAS: With such a deep palette of flavors, we think there’s room for “bigger” dishes -- grilled scallops, fish and chips, white pizza... But we’ll go with a luxury food item, our favorite hedonistic side dish (entree in this case!) -- lobster mac and cheese.
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: This is fun and funky -- Rick James will do just fine. Particularly good song? “Bustin’ Out (on Funk)”, featured in the movie we re-watched over the weekend -- the fine, high art of the film called "Superbad". Yes!
