Morlet Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier 2015
This might be our first allocation of Morlet Cabernet that was more than 6 bottles (which, we bought personally, of course!), so we are thrilled to have a meager 48 bottles to offer for the hardcore Cabernet collectors. Put this bad boy in the center of your cellar!
Morlet Family Vineyards was started by French winemaker Luc Morlet and his wife Jodie; 2006 was their first vintage. Luc was born in Epernay, France (Champagne), and is from five generations of winegrowers; he has worked over 30 harvests. He has been surrounded by the wine industry his entire life – his family has been growing grapes and making wine since the early 1800s. The family winery, Champagne Pierre Morlet, is located in Avenay-Val-d’Or, Champagne, France which is about a 15 minute drive from the center of Epernay. Besides Morlet, Luc has an incredible resume of rockstar-level winemaking roles - Peter Michael, Staglin, Newton, and many more. “Mon Chevalier” is his Cabernet dedicated to his son, Paul.
Plenty of tasting notes to absorb below, but we can tell you - at this stage, with a bit of bottle age, the wine is SOARING. Rich, velvety, savory and ripe, it quite simply hits all the sweet spots, and will continue to improve for a decade or more easily! Only 48 bottles, while it lasts!
PAIRING IDEAS: Yes! Go to your local Mexican market and buy some of the thinly sliced meat the butchers always have (for fajitas and such). It’s perfect. Get some provolone cheese and buns. Also imperative to have some “hots”, and/or some onions and peppers, if you like. S+P the meat, sear and chop, throw on a few slices of cheese, hit the bun and add your extras. So good!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Knockout Cabernet deserves a little LL Cool J -- ”Mama Said Knock You Out” is a good start! Get your post-punk on after that with Social Distortion’s “She’s a Knockout”.
