Cascina Adelaide Barolo Baudana 2016 (Magnum 1.5L) - First Bottle

Reviews

96 James Suckling -
Yum. Beautiful core of ripe strawberries, orange peel and cedar with sandalwood, too. Full-bodied, yet tight and polished with chewy tannins and a compact palate. Classic, solid and serious structure to this. Try after 2023.
95 Wine Spectator -
This red is broad and saturated with plum, cherry, mineral, mint and tar flavors, framed by a backbone of dense, stiff tannins. Those tannins have the upper hand now, but the resonant finish indicates there is plenty of fruit in reserve. Be patient. Best from 2025 through 2050. 450 cases made, 50 cases imported.
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Like the other wines in this collection, the oak signature that was once so prominent has been notably scaled back, resulting in a lighter, more streamlined and elegant Cascina Adelaide 2016 Barolo Baudana. This set of samples from the 2016 vintage, having seen a mix of steel and French oak barrels, deliver some of the best results ever from this estate. Dark, plump fruit and bright cherry are followed by bitter almond, cola and tart berry fruit. I'd give this Barolo a few more years to find harmony and more stability. This was a release of 6,000 bottles.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Exactly 36 magnums of Baudana (96pts) just landed at truly astounding prices! ‘16 is the vintage of...well...maybe ever! Cascina Adelaide, one of our all-time favorite Barolo producers, makes complex, yet often approachable, world-class wines, and WE have the inside line.

In 1999, owner Amabile Droco purchased an old farmhouse in the heart of Barolo (the village), made a considerable investment in new production equipment, and added a new state of the art gravity-fed winery building to the property. They now own top sites in eight out of the 10 Barolo “Crus”, and continue to be an ever-higher-achieving star on the rise. The Cannubi hill is sacred ground, of course, in the heart of Barolo, and Cascina’s incredibly fine, lifted, perfumey and polished wine will last for decades, especially in magnum.

These magnums are over 50% OFF their regular retail price...crazy! Do anything to snag a few! Your future self and your future wine collection will thank you!!

About the Producer

After a highly successful engineering career, Amabile Droco achieved his lifetime’s ambition when he purchased an old farmhouse and the accompanying vineyards in the heart of the village of Barolo in 1999. The employment of a top new winemaking team and the construction of an incredible new subterranean winery had a predictably positive effect on the quality of the wines produced. What really sets Cascina Adelaide apart however, is their vineyard holdings and their commitment to demonstrating the diversity of the terroirs within the Barolo DOCG. Journalists have been quick to recognize the fantastic quality of the wines with a number of the wines awarded 95 points from Wine Spectator as well as consistently coming out on top in Decanter tastings. The Fossati Cru is located in the La Morra area, where the soil is rich of red and grey clay. This place is well-known as a great cru for great Barolo wines that can be aged for decades.
