Billecart Salmon Cuvee Elisabeth Rose 2008 (1 pack gift box) - First Bottle

Reviews

98 Decanter -
A superb vintage of this renowned prestige cuvée, this is made from a base of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, to which is added 9% of red wine. Despite ageing on its lees for 10 years, it remains almost shockingly youthful, its vividly primary flavours of red cherry, strawberry and nectarine wrapped up in a taut, tense frame. It’s silky in texture and intricately complex on the long, elegantly harmonious finish, underlined by a saline chalkiness, and it demonstrates all the requisite completeness and character for long ageing, promising a slow and dignified evolution to come. Drinking Window: 2021-2050. (May 2021)
98 James Suckling -
This is very vinous with aromas of iron, strawberries, old roses and geraniums. So aromatic. Full-bodied, really intense and layered with super dryness and depth. Lots of saline and spicy character at the end, such as clove and pepper, as well as hints of flowers and melted butter. Strawberry tart at the end. 17% in aged oak casks. Blend of 55% pinot noir from six villages (Mareuil sur Ay, Ay, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Verzenay and Verzy) and 45% chardonnay from three Grand Crus (Mesnil sur Oger, Cramant and Chouilly). 9% of the blend is red wine from a parcel in the village of Mareuil sur Ay. Bottled June 2009 and disgorged July 2019. Drink or hold. (5/31/21)

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

This isn’t your mom’s Billecart. This is rare, special, and probably THE finest vintage of this prestige cuvée EVER from the masters at Billecart-Salmon. A TRUE cellar treasure, cellar centerpiece, utmost-special-occasion wine and a MUST for the serious collector. This is direct from Billecart, pristine and we are simply bursting with pride to offer it -- all 68 bottles, that is!! Our price? Among the very lowest you will see!

Founded in 1818 with the marriage of Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon, it is one of the few of the larger houses to remain family owned. The House is now run by the seventh generation of the family, brothers François Roland Billecart and Antoine Roland Billecart. This rare cuvee is a tribute to Elisabeth Salmon, of course, from top lots of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. 7g per liter dosage. The 2008 vintage from Champagne has been widely praised as the greatest so far this century, with Decanter begging the question: "Is the 2008 vintage in Champagne the greatest ever?"

Two glowing 98-point scores and a fine price! This will be first come, first served. Savvy Champagne buyers...GO!! Don’t wait for the other scores to come pouring in!

PAIRING IDEAS: “To accompany this wine, I imagine fresh brown crab. This dish plays on the duality of freshness and complexity, which resonates with the Elisabeth Salmon 2008’s Chardonnay freshness and Pinot Noir vinosity.” - Anne-Sophie Pic

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Turn up the volume on Bob Marley and The Wailers, “Natural Mystic” (preferably on vinyl), and find a comfortable place to sit while you slowly sip this freak of nature. SOOOOOO GOOD!

About the Producer

The champagnes of Maison Billecart-Salmon are above all created thanks to the knowledge of the men who rigorously cultivate an estate of 100 hectares, obtaining grapes from an area totalling 300 hectares across 40 crus of the Champagne region. The majority of the grapes used for vinification come from a radius of 20km around Epernay, where the Grand Crus of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay co-exist, in the ethereal vineyards of the Montagne de Reims, the Valle de la Marne and the Cote des Blancs.
