Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a very classic nose of cassis, warm plums and crushed blackberries with notions of cigar box, garrigue, damp soil and truffles plus wafts of menthol and underbrush. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a firm frame of grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and minerally.
96 Wine Spectator -
A focused, tannic style, featuring tobacco and sage notes intermixed liberally with steeped currant and blackberry fruit flavors, with cast iron and graphite hints flowing underneath. This has loads of character and range, showing vigorous, savory-edged cut. Youthfully rugged, with bramble-edged grip to burn. Cellaring will let all the elements meld. Best from 2021 through 2040. 790 cases made.

About the Producer

Philip Togni is a luminary. He planted his first vines at 2000 feet near the top of Spring Mountain in 1981. Born in England, Philip studied with the legendary Emile Peynaud and moved to Napa in 1959 where he first worked at Mayacamas. His resume grew quickly getting experience at Chalone, Chappellet, Cuvaison and Ingelnook. He was the head winemaker at Chappellet where he crafted arguably one of the finest wines ever made in Napa history, the 1969 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon. His wines always reflect an old-world sensibility and an uncanny ability to improve with bottle age.
