The NV Rare Sherry Amontillado Solera AOS wears its 22% alcohol with flair and elegance. A bright, dark mahogany-colored wine, it originates from a solera created in 1903 and averages 25 years of age. The complex nose is one of a kind, with strong aromatics, rosemary and thyme covering the roasted hazelnuts, bitter oranges, noble woods and curry. The medium- to full-bodied palate shows a very spicy, smoky wine with hints of coffee, layered, intense, more subtle than in your face and very complex. To keep the old average age, only 300 bottles are filled each year. A tour de force wine! Drink 2013-2025.

Unique, a jewel of a wine with incredible flavours from the ageing process... a delicious density of lifted, dried orange peel, polished wood, coconut and toasted nuts. Creamy, with hints of fudge, yet very savoury. Awesome.

Some of you may remember these rarities from a BPW offer a few years back --- well, First Bottle just scored a tiny bit more of these ethereally delicious, high-scoring, amazingly PRICED sherries, dating back some 155 YEARS! DIRECT from the winery!


OK, there is a LOT of ground to cover here in the world of sherry, Osborne and the Solera system. We’d suggest snagging a couple of these and come back to read up a bit (links below)  --- SUPER LIMITED as we noted! Osborne is one of the oldest firms of wine and spirits in Spain. It was founded in 1772 by the young English entrepreneur Thomas Osborne Mann, who started shipping his own sherries in 1804!

 

Personally, these are wines to drink on very special occasions, with people who appreciate old wines and enjoy paying attention to nuance and complexity. They range from sweet to drier but the main thing is the OUTRAGEOUS flavor and aroma profiles in these very old wines. They are SPECTACULARLY nutty, wildly complex and long, and are truly ASTOUNDING to pair with cheese and fruit and various sweets, including ice cream. Rarely will they not BLOW YOU AWAY and provide an unforgettable experience, intellectually and hedonistically!
