Mas Gabinele Faugeres 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

91-93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The classic cuvee from the estate, the 2015 Faugeres is an elegant, impressively concentrated blend of 35% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Carignan and the rest Mourvèdre aged in new and once-used oak casks. It has a rich bouquet of blackcurrants, licorice, toasted spice and leather. This gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a layered, polished textured, solid mid-palate concentrate, ripe tannin and a great finish.

About the Producer

Mas Gabinèle is a small vineyard located on the commune of Laurens, in the heart of the Faugères appellation in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This part of the Languedoc, situated at the base of the Cévennes is quite hilly and the vineyards are surrounded by scrublands of garrigue: white oak (with truffles if you’re lucky) rosemary, thyme and cistus. The soils of Mas Gabinèle are Laurent-Cabrières sandstone-schist. A type of metamorphosed rock that is quite poor in nutrients and rather dry and sandy so the yields are tiny. Thierry Rodriguez, the grandson of a winemaker bought his first vineyard in Faugères in 1997 and over the last two decades he has expanded the size of Mas Gabinèle to 59 acres of vines, of which only 49 are currently in production.
