A barrel sample, the very deep purple-black colored 2016 “Regusci Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon Stag’s Leap District is profoundly scented of blueberry compote, black forest cake and licorice with hints of cedar chest, cloves, cinnamon stick and black soil. Full-bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, the generous blue and black fruit flavors are well supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. If this wine lives up to its promise when bottled, it will be a knockout! 96-98

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Regusci Vineyard is fabulous. Rich, inky and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous structure to play off the inky Stags Leap fruit. Creme de cassis, lavender, graphite, cloves, sage, white flowers and new French oak all run through this sumptuous, flamboyant Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2016 needs time for its tannins to soften, but it is tremendous, even in the early going.

We can’t really argue with or add to the Wine Advocate writeup -- this is simply knockout Napa Cabernet in the Thomas Rivers Brown style you know and love. What else can we say except….HURRY! We barely got enough to offer!! Wow!
About the Producer
Caterwaul is a project between 6th generation Napa native, Matt Hardin and “Top Gun” winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Matt is a partner in Barbour Vineyard Management and is also married to Jim Regusci’s daughter, so when it came time to source premium grapes, they found their favorite rows of Jim’s prime cut of Stag’s Leap District for this wine. Thomas and Matt had worked together for many years over many different projects and a friendship was developed. Out of that friendship the idea of working together, utilizing the strengths of the other, Caterwaul was born.
