Screaming Eagle Proprietary Red The Flight 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

98 James Suckling -
This is very tight grained and beautifully balanced with violets, crushed stones and a brambleberry character. Extremely aromatic and perfumed. Medium to full body with a compressed mouthfeel of wonderfully fine and fresh tannins. A fantastic merlot-based red for the vintage. Structured yet so balanced. Beautiful now but better in 2021.
97 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Very deep purple-black, the 2015 The Flight (a blend of 61% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon) opens with electric notes of black and blue fruit sparks—wild blueberries, fresh blackberries and crushed black plums—with nuances of lavender, violets, pencil shavings, tilled soil, yeast extract and a waft of cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, it hits the palate with tons of energy and freshness supported by firm, finely grained tannins, finishing with tons of fragrant earth layers.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Ah yes, the elusive Screaming Eagle has indeed landed in our warehouse (well, a few bottles, anyway…). The Flight replaces the old “Second Flight” which was more of a true “second wine”. The Flight, on the other hand, is some of the vineyards old-vine Merlot and is farmed somewhat differently than the Cabernet. Given that quality and special farming, Screaming Eagle chose to drop the “second”, as they feel it now stands side-by-side with the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The critics, agree, of course. As well they should. This wine is SPECTACULAR. Not to mention the quality of the vintage here in Napa! Should be on your shortest short list!
