Reviews

92 Vinous -
The 2018 Albarino is such a pretty, expressive white with lovely textural depth to balance the natural acidity of Albarino. Citrus peel, jasmine, mint and almond notes all grace this exquisite, refreshing white from Gallica and Rosemary Cakebread.

** Truly a head-spinner of a price. PLEASE get some for all-the-time sipping. An amazing buy! ** GALLICA is woman-winemaking superstar Rosemary Cakebread’s personal label, and besides all her pricier, big-scoring Cabernets, she makes FANTASTIC, punching-way-over-their-class wines from special sites in lesser-known regions like El Dorado and Calaveras. THEY ROCK, so when we tasted her ‘18 Albarino with summer heat in mind, we were nearly breathless at how good it was drinking. 92 POINTS Vinous to boot!

Can’t argue here a bit. This is a richly styled Albarino, which adds intrigue to its characteristic laser acidity and sea-saltiness, with a touch of tropicality and roasted nuts. Drinks like a champ to beat the heat, but serious enough for serious food. Truly ASTOUNDING price -- please don’t miss!

PAIRING IDEAS: Rosemary’s version has some flesh to it, so this screams for scallops, lobster rolls, grilled halibut, and the like. In fact, we’re going to buy all those tonight and make them to polish this bottle off!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We need some Black Eyed Peas up in here, with a side serving of OutKast...maybe throw a little Fergie and Ludacris while you’re at it!!

About the Producer

Gallica is nestled in the heart of Napa Valley amongst historic vineyards, coastal oaks, our gardens and olives. Heritage Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon are rooted in gravelly Cortina soils ambling off nearby Sulphur Creek. Our home is a handsome barn, contemporary and fresh, standing side by side with weathered vines. We strive to practice lightly touching the land from the tending of our vines, thoughtful winemaking methods, to the simplicity of our packaging, Winemaker Rosemary Cakebread's vision for a wine of her own, eventually called GALLICA, grew slowly. Inspired by earlier work at prestigious properties in both Napa Valley and Bordeaux (Cheval Blanc), wines were made and a brand grew. The philosophy is a simple one: to craft elegant single vineyard wines farmed organically which accurately depict the site and the story of each unique vintage. GALLICA makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Albarino, Syrah and limited bottlings of estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. The brand symbol is a tribute to the ancient rose, their aromatics, and enhancement to winemaking. We love what we do and are fortunate to call Napa Valley home.
