Les Oiseaux de Chantegrive Graves Le Panache 2018
Wait! First just read this from Decanter World Wine Awards, one of the most prestigious blind tasting competitions in the world which includes a panel of 10 Master's of Wine and 3 Master Somm's amount other wine professionals: "Sculpted and taut, gently revealing a complex array of flavours in what is a classically styled wine. Subtle, creamy oak interweaves with textured stone fruit on the elegant and finely layered palate. Long and vivid.”
Nailed it! Super-consultant Hubert de Bouard lends his expertise at this chateau in Graves, and it is a THRILL to drink. We are lucky to be one of the few in the USA to carry it! Somehow creamy, yet laser-focused, clean and pure, it hits all our sweet spots, especially that deft touch of French oak, which brings it all together.
If you like heart-warming stories, this is one of them. The story begins in 1966 when Henri and Françoise Leveque decided to create what would later become Chateau de Chantegrive. They believed in the magnificent terroir of the Graves region and sold their stamp collection (yes, you read that right) in order to purchase their two first hectares of vines.
Drink this 95-pointer all summer long - while it lasts, that is! ONLY 30 CASES!
PAIRING IDEAS: For us, seared or grilled halibut is IDEAL. We’ve been using our Joule Sous Vide machine lately, too. Seal it up with a lemon slice, some herbs, and oil. Bring it to 125 degrees or so, then grill it or sear it in a screaming hot cast iron pan to crisp up the skin. Drizzle with more oil and lemon, salt and BOOM!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Like a little French dance/electronic music? Put on a mix of Daft Punk - the old stuff is funky and fun all the way up to the huge hit “Get Lucky”.
