Domaine Paterianakis Vidiano Organic Crete 2019
Summer -- while we’d rather be chilling on a beach in Crete right now (looks amazing), this can fill the gap. Vidiano is a native Cretan variety, which was revived through the efforts of pioneering winemakers and grape growers on the island. The variety is gaining a broad reputation, as it is already being grown and vinified throughout Crete by almost all winemakers. Fun fact: Crete has the longest wine production history across Europe, with winemaking dating back over 4,000 years!
Paterianakis winery is one of the most respected producers on the island (3rd generation producer), who farms meticulously following organic practices. This bottle, as we said, just blew our socks off and immediately transported us to the shores of this majestic island. Citrus blossoms, lemon, manderin zest, yellow apple, star fruit, slate and salty ocean breeze aromas. The flavors are packed with loads of citrus (lemon, lime, kumquat), flowers, wet stone and the telltale minerality that makes Greek whites some of the most exciting on the planet. While it lasts...!
PAIRING IDEAS: It’s all about seafood, of course, but Vidiano is a cool one because it has acidity and a creamy mouthfeel, so we think scallops are utter perfection with it. You could do a crudo, which we love, or just do the screaming-hot pan sear with a simple butter sauce. Vidiano shines with veggies, too -- grill some zucchini!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Get your rave music on by the pool with a glass of Vidiano in hand! Play some Steve Angello, Greek DJ and producer, best known for his band, Swedish House Mafia.
