Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Minimalist winemaking, dry farming, native yeasts and excellent Willakenzie soils and volcanic Basalt at the estate are the core of what is happening here...and...we happened to be at the right place at the right time to grab a parcel of this vibrant, crunchy and complex pinot at a jaw-dropper of a price.

This incredible 15 acre estate (next to luminaries like Soter, Ken Wright and Shea) is owned by the Terry family and is crafted by none other than the young prodigy winemaker, Jared Etzel. Jared started working at his family’s legendary Beaux Freres winery (owned by his father and co-owned by his world-famous uncle, Robert Parker), when he was 10 years old. We first met Jared when he was in Napa working with Fisher Vineyards, but his resume has some serious heavy hitters beyond Fisher. The rest of his time in Napa included stints with Kapcsándy Family and Blankiet Estate. Jared then spent time abroad at Artadi and Clos Erasmus in Spain, and back at his home turf at Cristom, Brick House, Willakenzie Estate, and his own winery, Domaine Roy. Needless to say, Jared knows his stuff!

Today’s missive is Jared at his best; letting the wild side of this estate shine through in the glass. Pennyroyal, mace, red cherry, pomegranate, wild fennel, sandalwood, forest floor, and hints of green olive all radiate from the glass. The flavors are incredibly bright and fresh, and align nicely with the aromas of more tart red cherry, early summer cherry-plum, mace, and lemon thyme, with subtle sandalwood and rosemary flavors that linger through the lengthy finish. Tasting this, I can’t help but be reminded of the Evening Land’s La Source Pinot Noir, with its staggering complexity, bright acids and stem-influenced style.

PAIRING IDEAS: Portobello burgers! Marinated in soy, balsamic, olive oil and paprika, simply grilled on a freshly toasted brioche bun with all the fixings of course. Beet salad would be amazing as a side to match the earthy and herbal qualities.

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We are digging Red Hot Chili Peppers for this wine -- Flea’s funky bassline works quite well with the vibrancy of this wine!

About the Producer

The Terry family lineage is humble; farmers, ranchers, arborists, and vine tenders. A rich history of living on the land. Their Grandparents first tended vines in the Mosel River Valley of Germany, then farmed in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and the Great Plains states. Now, a new generation continues their tradition in Oregon. After graduating, Terry diverted to a career in wealth management but his love of the land never wavered. In 2010, Terry could no longer resist and began looking at established vineyards for sale in Willamette Valley and soon settled upon an abandoned hillside farm in Yamhill-Carlton. The Terry family had come full circle ? from work boots to loafers and back again. Minimalism, excellence, sustainability, and authenticity are our core values in business and in life. Above all, we are minimalists. We are dry farmers, entirely dependent on the vagaries of nature to provide necessary hydration and nourishment deep in the Willakenzie soils and volcanic Basalt bristling throughout our property. Our values are expressed in our label . . . and . . . which graphically expresses our belief in the power of minimalism and authenticity.
