Domaine Jacques Girardin Santenay Les Maladieres 1er Cru 2017
Wowowowow! This is incredible value in red Burgundy and a candidate for "buy of the year". It's got it ALL! We bought every single bottle we could get the moment it hit our tasting bar. Gloriously ripe and inviting with all the feels of fine Burgundy, but with a modern and polished edge that we just love. Wonderful cassis and cherry-plum flavors are framed in silky tannins with earth and tobacco flavors dusted with chalky minerals, this is the real deal and priced like it's 1990!
The entire Girardin family are world-class winemakers, including Jacques’ quite famous uncle, Vincent. Jacques has been producing wine from his own domaine since 1978. The domaine, based in Santenay, is run by Jacques and his wife, Valerie, but more recently and perhaps most notably, their son, Justin, has recently joined the domaine after working in vineyards in Australia. He brings a modern sensibility which seems evident in this beautiful wine. You are going to be blown away by the quality level you get for the price!
Do what you can to grab a 6-pack (free shipping!) or a case of this, you will not regret it!
PAIRING IDEAS: We’d eat ANYTHING with this plush Burg, but if we had to pick? Slanted Door’s “Shaking Beef” (which is easy to make).
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Smooooooth. We’re still in Bottlerock 2021 mode, so try some CHROMEO. Funky, silky, goofy and fun!
