Radio-Coteau Syrah Harrison's Grade 2013 (Magnums 1.5L) - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
I was blown away by the four Syrahs that Eric Sussman is producing. One of two prodigious Syrahs is the 2013 Syrah Harrison Grade, from an organically farmed vineyard 800 feet above sea level on a ridge top near Occidental. Sussman used 45% whole-clusters and, again, bottled this wine unfined and unfiltered. It has an absolutely amazing opaque purple color, while notes of graphite, asphalt, camphor, black truffle, blackberry and cassis soar from the glass. Some meatiness is also apparent, as this wine comes across like a California version of a great Hermitage. It should age magnificently for 15-20 or more years. Sadly, there are only 140 cases of the Harrison Grade and 170 cases of the Dusty Lane, but they are fabulous Syrahs from coastal viticulture and great winemaking.
94-96 Vinous -
One of the more savory wines in the range, the 2013 Syrah Harrison Grade Estate emerges from the glass showing magnificent complexity.Bblack pepper, orange peel, melted road tar, game, smoke and incense meld into generous blue and purple-toned fruit. All the elements fall into place in a cool-climate Syrah endowed with tons of personality and class, not to mention considerable fruit intensity for a coastal Syrah. This is a hugely promising wine from Radio-Coteau.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
WOWOWOW! Extremely rare magnums of perfectly mature Syrah. THIS is a real treat to imbibe. While Eric Sussman's pinot noir often gets the attention his Syrah is the real sleeper in his portfolio. Robert Parker Jr. himself flipped for this calling it, "a California version of a great Hermitage." We couldn't agree more. This super cool site near occidental is farmed to perfection, without herbicides or pesticides, and is perfectly coaxed in the cellar. This is a stunner from start to finish! Only 5 of these extremely rare magnums are up for grabs! While they last!

About the Producer

Eric Sussman first heard the expression radio coteau from a friend while living and working in Burgundy. More than a preference for how you discover these wines, the name reflects a commitment to capturing reflections of soil, seasons, people and place. In 2002, Eric established Radio-Coteau, focusing on the north coast vineyards of western Sonoma County and Anderson Valley. With their benchland locations, well-drained soils, exposure by capricious marine air and fog, these sites host grapes naturally suited to their surrounding elements. This natural selection afforded Eric an opportunity to refine his Old World experiences while working with New World grapes. For more than a decade, he has strived to balance nature's expression with a delicate, but disciplined human touch in these handcrafted wines.
